At its meeting on 18 November 2015 the European Payment Institutions Federation (EPIF) Board elected Derrick Brown of Worldpay as Chair of the Board. Derrick is succeeding Sarah Sheehan of American Express who held this position since the founding of EPIF in July 2011.
Reacting to his appointment, Derrick Brown said: “I commend Sarah on the tremendous job she has done in supporting EPIF and gaining recognition for the Federation in important fora such as the European Payments Council and the Euro Retail Payments Board. She will be a hard act to follow. I am delighted for the trust the Board has bestowed in me and will work hard to help strengthen the voice and understanding of the non-bank payment sector in Europe. At the heart of this will be EPIF’s active participation in European standard setting work, building our information sources and ensuring EPIF continues to provide valued services to all its members”.
Sarah Sheehan commented that “it has been a real pleasure seeing EPIF grow from strength to strength over the last years. Derrick will bring a new perspective to the role of the Chair and it is this diversity of perspectives on payments which makes EPIF the natural partner for policy makers, supervisors and other interested parties. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank EPIF’s members, our partners in the EU institutions and standard setting bodies and importantly the EPIF Secretariat for all their support in the last four and a half years.”
Notes by the Editors:
EPIF, founded in 2011, represents the interests of the non-bank payment sector at the European level. We currently have over 250 authorised payment institutions and other non-bank payment providers as our members offering services in every part of Europe. EPIF thus represents roughly one third of all authorized Payment Institutions in Europe.
Our diverse membership includes the broad range of business models including:
- 3-party Card Network Schemes
- Acquirers
- Money Transfer Operators
- FX Payment Providers
- Mobile Payments
- Payment Processing Service Providers
- Card Issuers
- Third Party Providers
- Digital wallets
EPIF seeks to represent the voice of the PI industry and the non-bank payment sector with EU institutions, policy-makers and stakeholders. We aim to play a constructive role in shaping and developing market conditions for payments in a modern and constantly evolving environment. It is our desire to promote a single EU payments market via the removal of excessive regulatory obstacles. We wish to be seen as a provider for efficient payments in that single market and it is our aim to increase payment product diversification and innovation tailored to the needs of payment users (e.g. via mobile and internet).
